I Am Thriving

I overhead her reading last week that PETA claims we former Michael Vick dogs are all dead, or if not dead, then homeless. Did PETA make this assumption just because I haven’t posted here in awhile? Well, here I am. I’m alive, happy, and busy. I’ve got more hobbies than most kids.

And I’m not homeless either. My life is full and my adoptive family adores me. I live in the house with them, I eat well, I go on lots of outings, I know all of my neighbors, I practice my stuff (I’m a performance dog in training), I play hard, and I get my much deserved beauty rest. This month marks the one year anniversary that my orthopedic surgeon gave me the go-ahead to start agility classes. I’m now quite competent on the teeter, I can make crazy entries into the poles, I jump with the grace of a pig-shaped gazelle, and I get happily sucked into agility tunnels.

When I’m not doing all that, I’m vacationing with my family and my buddy Aldo on the coast. I’m thriving and I’m happy. PETA, I’m most definitely not dead.

p.s. oh PETA, you are right about one thing though. I don’t get handouts from under the dinner table. I wish I did.

Audie baby I love you! And I am so happy for you but what are you talking about with Peta saying you are all dead?!?!? Confused! A really nice man who heads the cruelty dept @PETA has helped me save a lot of dogs like you when every other group blew me off. Hugs from NYC Audie, your pics give a whole lot of dogs HOPE!!!! Bravo to your folks! =)

I've been reading this blog for a bit. It's very inspiring as well as kind of horrifying in that it makes you think, in a personal way, of the things that are done to animals. I'm so glad that any reports of your death are very, very premature and that you're doing so well.

I did some searching and she did seem to say it. Her point was to stop the abuse of pit bulls, which is the most important thing, of course. But it was said here:

NYCKitten (I know you :-)- it's not a surprise at all RE: PETA- they wanted the vick dogs killed without any evaluation; they have said and promoted very bad aniti-pitbull sentiments...

NYCKitten - Susan - the PETA quotes were in a book review. Both Ken Foster and Donna Reynolds wrote comments countering PETA's assertions that the Vick dogs were "homeless or dead".

Don't kid yourself, PETA supports pitbull bans.

Fantastic. Nice to know that people like you remember our friends need our help by actually helping them and not eating them as well. Spent time at Best Friends Sanctuary and Pit Bulls they are an amazing breed. We owe to them to protect them.

I worry about PETA.

I used to support PETA before I started doing "hands-on" rescue work & found out what they really think about Bully breeds, feral cats, etc. If it were up to them, all Pit Bulls, Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Terriers, and any other dog that resembles a Pit Bull would be dead. PETA,HSUS, & even ASPCA are anti-bully breeds. They will ask the public for money to save abandoned, abused, neglected dogs but then turn right around and recommend those same dogs be killed. Where does all that money go? Did any of the groups that actually took the Vick dogs ever get a penny of the money raised to "care" for them? As far as I'm concerned, PETA can kiss my Pit Bulls' ASS!!

I spat my tea over my keyboard a the the "pig-shaped gazelle" that perfectly describes my pitty!

Thank God for the pit bull rescues around the country that have brought to light the wonders of this breed, I have had 2 and its a constant uphill struggle with people who are convinced that these dogs are vicious. Thankfully my 2 have turned so many people around. My friend even adopted from Bad Rap because she fell in love with our Macy.

Thanks Audie and the families of these dogs for shouting out loud "we are alive and doing well after the horrible start to life we were given."

Love this blog! I have adopted several dogs and have been a volunteer at a rescue league for over 20 years, I truly appreciate what you have done. I'm also an agility competitor and just love how awesome your dog looks going through those poles! :) Great job!

Curious about the comment that the ASPCA is anti-bully breed. I checked it out immediately since I support ASPCA and found this on the website (doesn't sound anti-bully to me). I am curious to know what that statement is based on. Thanks.

What You Can Do

Visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center to keep up to date on dog fighting legislation in your state.

Adopt a Pit Bull and let your perfect pooch be an ambassador for the breed!

If your local shelter is facing a Pit Bull dilemma, volunteer to help keep adoptable Pit Bulls and Pit mixes mentally and physically fit by exercising them or taking them to obedience classes. You can also lead a chew-toy drive at work to collect rawhides or hard rubber playthings to keep them busy, or help create a fund-raiser to support a free sterilization program for Pit Bulls in your local shelter.

Do your kids have questions about dog fighting? Visit our children's website, ASPCA Animaland, for information about dog fighting that's written especially for kids.

Visit Pit Bull Rescue Central for information on adopting and caring for American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Pit Bull mixes.

Hi AUDIE. We down here in the cotton picking South love you. And yep, you are thriving, and so are your brothers and sisters. PETA needs to go back to school. Or something. Now, about not getting anything from the table. Hmm. Nothing? Not even one little tiny tiny morsel? Bummer.

Audie, you have a great sense of humor.

Image of the cow jumped over the moon has always impressed upon me. Then now, there is you, taking over the jump.

Grow from strength to strength Audie! Be that happy, gentle giant, pit bull that you are.

I am a children's librarian in Fergus, Ontario, Canada. I posted on Winnie's page but really want to post here too.... because today we just received a fabulous new book "Saving Audie"!!! (and that is how i found this blog)
"Audie" is my new favourite book and i will be sharing it with my own furry family tonight!!! (One mini shih-tzu named Piper and one lab-pit bull cross named PJ, who was rescued in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is now livin' the good life here in Canada!)
thanks to all who have done so much for these wonderful dogs.... i look forward to following you all on here.... :)

OMG Audie! I got my book in the mail two days ago! It was worth the wait. I love, love, love it and I'm so glad you got to tell your story. I only wish my book was Audie-graphed. Okay, that was a terrible joke. :B
